We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Technical Operations team in Nominet Cyber - someone who will lead a team of software engineers developing our next generation Data Platform which underpins our cyber security product. You will have a passion for leading and growing engineering teams while also being responsible for the timely planning and delivery of the projects the team are working on.


At Nominet Cyber we’re making a difference by detecting, blocking, and analysing cyber security threats amongst billions of DNS queries. Our mission critical product and high volumes of data mean you will have many challenging problems to solve. You will use your experience of working with modern Data Platform technologies at scale to become an authority for the Nominet Cyber Data Platform.




You will lead a multi-disciplinary team in building our highly secure scalable Data Platform, using your team leadership skills to inspire, unlock potential, and achieve success.


  • Take ownership of delivering the engineering roadmap for the team
  • Plan and negotiate with peers to meet delivery commitments
  • You will demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing toward your team's goals
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Lead scoping of projects/features/tasks within the team
  • Identify technical debt and work with PO to balance with product work using cost/benefit analysis to make decisions
  • Coach team members to develop their skills in line with business needs




Technical leadership experience and a solid background in software engineering are a must, so that you’re able to challenge and grow your team members. You’ll get hands on when necessary.


In addition you’ll have these skills and experience:

  • Solid Engineering Management experience on top of a strong technical background
  • Demonstrable experience building platforms with data technologies such as Kafka, Spark and Druid
  • Proven experience delivering complex software projects from design to production
  • Experience with cloud services, such as AWS
  • Experience and understanding of data security and controls
  • Experience working with Scrum or other agile methodologies
  • Strong analytical skills and detail oriented
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes a plus
