About the role:

 

As a Platform Engineer at Nominet, you will be an integral part of a newly formed Edge Platform team tasked with designing, building, and operating a new DNS Resolver platform. This platform will be critical infrastructure supporting the core of the internet globally. Running on private cloud, this platform will be the cornerstone of our DNS operations and will be responsible for powering our prestigious UK registry, our cyber security product Protective PDNS and more.

 

There isn’t a more exciting time to be part of Nominet, joining at the ground-floor of technology transformation to shape the platform that you will eventually manage and become a true expert in. During the evolution of the platform, you will transition from the design phase to the critical stage of managing and operating it in a multi-environment production system, replacing outdated legacy services along the way.

 

In this role you will have hands-on experience with the entire tech stack, actively contributing to the development of the platform, and your responsibilities will also include servicing the platform, encompassing various critical tasks such as monitoring and alerting, backups, system support, and proactive maintenance.

The essential bits:

 

You’ll have expert knowledge in virtualized environments with hands-on experience on Linux/KVM Hypervisors as well as working knowledge of Open Stack & VMware. You’ll also demonstrate an advance knowledge of Linux, but particularly focused on automation & performance tuning. We’d like to see a deep understanding of security, so you should be able to demonstrate knowledge of how to tweak Linux kernels to build secure environments.

 

You should have a basic understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, and load balancing. It would be desirable for you to have experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling such as Ansible, as well as knowledge of tools such as Docker.

As well as the technical experience required to perform in this role, it’s important that you are an effective communicator, someone who can clearly convey complex concepts to all stakeholders, address concerns and facilitate discussions. You’ll be an excellent problem-solver with a high level of critical thinking, you will propose innovative solutions and contribute ideas within a team.

 

Overall, you’ll be adaptable, be open to feedback and strive to continuously improve. You’re someone who wants to embrace new methodologies and wants to learn new technologies.
