We are looking for a Data Scientist who will be involved in the company's growing advanced data analytics provision with the opportunity to make a big impact within the business.


Surrounded and supported by a team of data engineers and data analysts, you will drive the best thinking using the datasets we can acquire to evolve Nominet’s position as a market leader in Registry, and apply the latest Data Science tools and methodologies to set our thinking at a Global level.


You will also have the opportunity to influence what data platforms will help the Insights team to deliver are more proactive and strategic service.



You will lead the thinking around required datasets, refreshing of models, flags, analysis and benchmarks, evolution of data based output, and general maturity around data thinking across core functions.


  • Ensuring the correct techniques are deployed in the correct circumstances to the most appropriate data being analysed
  • Create and develop new algorithms for the analysis of large data sets
  • Develop analysis techniques using a variety of leading edge / fit for purpose thinking
  • Understanding the requirements of the business, converting these into data science deliverables and using the resources of the Team to deliver fit for purpose solutions in time
  • Responsible for the proactive identification, evangelisation and development new thinking and delivery based on sound and structured research of our data.
  • Identifying and researching the potential for future services derived from Nominet data.
  • Accountability for meeting the measures and standards set by the Head of Insights in delivering thought leadership in data, optimise delivery and application of data driven solutions, and support the business in using data better for commercial gain
  • Responsible for data analytics / data science / insights thinking and generation based on all of Nominet’s data in order to challenge thinking and solve complex business problems working with the senior Insights roles
  • Understanding the data-science and analytics landscape, investigating new techniques and tools to help Nominet understand and gain commercial value from its data (not technology
  • Delivering the existing 3-year plan to meet quarter by quarter requirements and producing increasingly higher quality insights products and outputs, through an increasingly proactive and predictive Data lens.
  • Accountable for delivering a strategic approach to data science through data knowledge and data science thought leadership
  • Responsible ensuring that data science solutions are appropriate, timely, robust deliver to or above business requirements and exceed external customer’s’ expectations. Insight’s delivery must meet or exceed agreed metrics
  • Responsible for developing new commercial data-driven products




You will add enthusiastic and capable energy to developing a data science capability within the Insights Team. You can bring fresh and exciting ideas for the role and will have gained some of the following experience:


  • Proven commercial experience in a data / data science role – in particular of delivering data projects that have made a measurable impact to the business (e.g. direct revenue increase, saving on P&L, efficiency etc.)
  • Strong business acumen and business strategy skills to find the right answers
  • Advanced skills in statistical, mathematical, and predictive modelling
  • Skills in mathematical / technical computing software e.g. R
  • Wider programming/database experience advantageous but not essential
  • Excellent understanding of data types and data environments
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate findings and recommendations across teams and the organisation’s leadership structure
  • An exceptional talent for problem solving and logical reasoning
  • Ability to think laterally and look beyond the obvious
  • Must have an excellent eye for visualisation, flexible approach to problem solving,
  • Ability to coach data approaches, data strategy and data best practise at all levels is essential as is the ability to story tell with data, and identify the value add to the business and end users in commercial and lay persons terms.
  • Demonstrate a solid grasp of appropriate technologies and the debates surrounding types of data tooling required, but essentially to have a background in delivering insights, rather than programming
  • Track record in leading data analytics, Insights, data governance and Data science project delivery
  • Understanding of the implications, requirements, and challenges of agile, productionisation, and delivering self-serve data
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to research, develop, and evaluate methods and technologies for analysing and deriving value from Nominet’s technical and business data. They will do this by combining advanced mathematics and computational methods with a strong commercial focus.
  • Excellent academic background including a degree (BSc/or equivalent) in a numerate subject such as Analysis, Data Science, Computer Science, IT, Physics or Maths.
