Nominet’s Network team is undertaking a major technical refresh, and this role will form a critical part of that project, deploying and automating key infrastructure within the new environments whilst continuing to maintain and support the existing infrastructure. 

The Senior Network Engineer will work at the core of the Internet, designing and managing critical national infrastructure and government secure services  by designing, building and operating the Nominet network platforms and Internet connectivity.
It will be expected that you take a lead in analysing requirements, documenting solutions and leading other team members in successful new service deployments.  

You can expect to:

•    Design and deploy network technology and solutions based around Nominet’s Network and DNS platforms. 
•    Ensure that Nominets services maintain the enviable record of security, stability and maintainability to maximise uptime and meet customer SLAs for external and internal systems. 
•    Interface with the wider technical teams to ensure all systems are working in an efficient and scalable manner. 
•    Be a subject matter expert in both local and datacentre networks, internet and site-to-site connectivity, particularly with regard to ongoing operations. 
•    Quickly understand the existing environments and rapidly build the relationships required across the business. 
•    Understand the strategic importance of Nominet’s DNS services and how networks underpin these offerings. 
•    Lead/mentor team members to develop the breadth and depth of skills across the team. 
•    Participate in an on-call rota to support critical services and be ready to travel nationally and internationally to maintain our datacentre footprint as required.


The ideal candidate will have a real interest and enthusiasm for working with the latest technology within a highly motivated team.  You will bring both traditional core networking knowledge along with current datacentre network technology into the role and have an inquisitive and analytical mind.  
In addition you will have the ability to work as part of a team as well as being a strong motivated self-starter.  This role will suit an individual capable of absorbing complex technical detail and being able to provide understanding and value adding input quickly. 

Core requirements: 
•    Experience in the configuration and functionality exploitation of Juniper switches, firewalls and routers. 
•    Advanced practical knowledge of load balancing technologies – e.g. F5 BIG-IP and Vmware Avi. 
•    Advanced practical knowledge of Vmware NSX-T.  
•    Advanced practical knowledge of Internet networking protocols and peering principles e.g. BGP. 
•    Experience in developing automation against a variety of network platforms using appropriate tooling – e.g. Ansible, Terraform, F5 AS3, etc. 
•    Advanced practical knowledge of Network operations with a strong focus on Internet facing services. 
•    Experience producing High and Low Level network designs based on documented requirements. 
•    Prepared to be vetted for security clearance so as to work on sensitive systems. 
Desirable Requirements 
•    Experience of virtualisation technologies such as VMware. 
•    Capabilities with major scripting language (Python Preferred). 
•    Significant cyber-security awareness and knowledge of the threats and the applicability of risk mitigation approaches in a fast-changing landscape. 
•    Ability to provide technical leadership to other team members and work under pressure. 
•    An exceptional talent for problem solving and logical reasoning with the ability to think laterally and look beyond the obvious.
