As the Infrastructure Manager within our Internet Operations and Engineering business, you will lead and manage our highly skilled Infrastructure Operations team that operates and supports applications and services that form part of the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure. You will manage the hardware and processes that Nominet rely on to function, and to maintain a standard of excellence in terms of operational uptime of 99.99%.


You will  be responsible for running critical services that comprise the .uk domain registry. This is a role that enables you to truly make a difference to the efficient running of the UK infrastructure space – helping to ensure the online accessibility and safety of millions of users.




You will be an inspiring and technically hands-on leader who leads from the front using your experience of Systems Administration / Technical Operations / Infrastructure Management and understand a breadth of technologies. You will be an experienced manager or team leader and be responsible for upskilling and motivating your team to deliver in a fast-paced and technically demanding environment. 


Day to day this means you will:


  • Take a hands-on role in managing all physical infrastructure across our data centres while able to maintain a strategic view on hardware lifespans and plan accordingly.
  • Manage the Infrastructure Ops team consisting of Systems Administrators, Infrastructure Engineers, Security Engineers, NOC staff, contractors and other engineers.
  • Responsible for meeting all key-performance indicators and Service Level Agreements relating to the uptime and performance of systems and applications, along with supplier reviews.
  • Introduce and successfully integrate new modern processes, efficiencies and best-practices into the team.
  • Review team deliverables to ensure consistency and a high standard of work, including code reviews.
  • Design new solutions to business requirements leveraging your knowledge of Linux (RHEL), server compute, storage, VMWare.
  • Take a security-first approach to systems and ensure any vulnerabilities reported are resolved within agreed SLAs and timeframes.
  • Work within an ISO 20000 framework to preserve vital production services. Represent the business during certification audits and ensure our accreditations are maintained.
  • Deliver on key projects and priorities for the business while preserving a reliable and efficient BAU function.
  • Ensure infrastructure budgets are forecasted and managed effectively.
  • Responsibility for patching of all infrastructure.
  • Take ownership over problems identified across the infrastructure estate to ensure they are remediated efficiently.
  • Be the go-to person on all external/client-facing infrastructure queries and projects.
  • Implement and maintain a culture of excellence and follow industry best-practice approaches to infrastructure management including peer review activities.
  • First point of escalation on customer-impacting issues out-of-hours.
  • Maintain close working relationships with other relevant teams including Development, DNS & Networking, DevOps and the Project Management Office.





You are a highly capable manager, able to motivate and lead a large and dynamic team. Someone who instils a culture of delivery and who is an ambassador for the Infrastructure team across the business.


In terms of technical knowledge and experience, you will have:


  • Extensive experience running highly available Linux-based on-prem infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of running and operating services in multiple data centres.
  • Expert knowledge of Linux, VMWare, Ansible, Dell storage and compute.
  • Strong knowledge of GIT.
  • A thorough understanding of internet, networking and other infrastructure technologies.
  • Working knowledge of ISO20000 service management system.
  • Ability to work on large, high volume critical infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of networking and ELK highly desirable.
  • Experience managing and forecasting a large IT budget.
