ABOUT OUR ROLE  

 

Nominet are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to work in the Data Engineering capability for the Registry and BAU side of the Nominet business.  

  

The Senior Data Engineer will mainly focus on delivering the sustainability of the existing tooling, and new tools and operating systems once they are implemented. Supporting this transition process will be a key part of this role – supporting the Lead data Engineer in implementing, testing, bug fixing and long-term running of the replacement tools. 

 

This role is responsible for being first line of defence for any issues in existing tools, or data sets, and is responsible for ensuring that the insights team have the right flow of data in the right formats hitting or exceeding the agreed performance metrics and deadlines.  

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

 

Reporting to the Lead Data Engineer (LDE)this role will be accountable for day-to-day delivery against the 3-year Insights plan as agreed by the LDE and the Head of Insights. You’ll be in the driving seat for obtaining access to the right data, in the right format, at the right time, and for the appropriate applications for the Insights teamThis includes the provision of the required environments / structures and tools to facilitate their pivotal work.   

 

You will be curating knowledge of the tooling and system’s architecture touching the Insights space and must become the go to person for technical support of new tools even if this requires training / coaching. All in the name of delivering the sustainability of the existing tooling, and new tools and operating systems once they are implemented.  

 

 

But there is more to this role… 

 

  • Use your knowledge to effectively support Oracle applications in the short term, but with more extensive and diverse capabilities as the tool set evolves.  
  • Deliver day-to-day data sets that are rich, accurate, fresh, managed, compliant, fit for purpose, and easily accessible.  
  • Provide daily delivery of fit for purpose, timely, robust, accurate and accessible data/data solutions to support all Insights Team delivery - meeting or exceeding agreed metrics.  
  • Proactively modernising methodologies and languages to fit the tasks in hand  
  • Responsible for delivering effective contributions by Data Engineering to enterprise-wide projects such as TTP and RDP.  
  • Supplying tools replacements for Insights within given timeframes   
  • Responsible for day-to-day delivery of the data delivery systems and processes  
  • Responsible for documentation of processes relating to data. 
  • Responsible for escalating any potential issues, and forecasting / managing potential conflicts, peak demands on the system, and bottlenecks on delivery / tools management.  
  • Responsible for curating knowledge of the tooling and system’s architecture touching the Insights space and must become the go to person for technical support of new tools even if this requires training / coaching 
  • Ensure all elements of the data delivery system are sustainable and optimised especially during transition phases of existing elements to new.  
  • Responsible for Implementing, testing, debugging and cut over of ETL, OBIEE, and Warehouse toolsets by 2024.  
  • Responsible for regular documentation and sharing of all processes and tools changes / updates/modifications and reusable codes, processes, and learning. 
  • Avoid customisation where possible, but support automation and productionisation of repeatable requirements across Insight’s activity.  
  • Work at pace to meet depending on deadlines of analysts, data scientists, and the business every time.  
  • Ensure that the data sets are rich, accurate, fresh, managed, compliant, and fit for purpose. 

 

WHO YOU ARE 

 

This role is about the Data right, so having a real enthusiasm and passion for this field is a must. In our experience, enthusiasm usually brings thorough knowledge- in this case, Data lifecycle the role of tools and tech at each stage. 

 

  • Established experience with part of the Oracle tool stack and have ideally worked in a DATA engineering team for some time. 
  • You’ll have an excellent eye for detail, flexible approach to problem solving, and the ability to meet deadline and quality benchmarks. 
  • Demonstrate appropriate application of tools, languages and approach are as important as implementing the latest technology thinking, and the emphasis is on keeping the flow of data sustained.    
  • You’ll bring fresh and exciting ideas to the role and could work as part of a team as well as being strongly self-motivated. 
  • Desire to learn new tools and techniques and can show ongoing interest in data, technology, business and will have researched what Nominet does before the interview.  
  • Experience of OBIEE reports, dashboards, security model and RPD development desirable 
  • Experience with other database technologies e.g. SQL Server, Postgres is desirable 
  • Ability to flex approach with operational parameters and to deliver on time, every time is essential.  
  • Demonstrably understands the implications, requirements, and challenges of agile, productionisation, and delivering self-serve data.
