We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Infrastructure Engineer who will play a key role in designing, building and operating Critical National Infrastructure that underpins our DNS and TLD services. 


As part of a dedicated team of Infrastructure Engineers and Systems Administrators you will have a major role within the Infrastructure Ops team and across our Internet Engineering and Operations department in general, using your considerable experience to improve the environment for the long term within a team that embraces change and improvement.

Here is what you can expect to get involved in day to day. The role also requires joining the on-call rota for the Infrastructure Ops team after a period of settling in.


  • Build, deploy, operate and monitor physical infrastructure across our data centres.
  • Manage our virtualised compute (VMware 6.x) including provisioning new virtual servers primarily running on RedHat operating systems.
  • Ensure services are appropriately monitored (using Zabbix) and respond to any emerging issues.
  • Have an automated-first approach to problem solving, eliminating the need for manual changes to services.
  • Patch and upgrade key systems across our operating systems, storage, compute and the rest of our core infrastructure.
  • Mentor less experienced team members to ensure consistency and standards across the Infrastructure Ops team.
  • Assisting with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of production issues.
  • Peer-review changes from team members.
  • Take a security-first approach to systems and ensure any vulnerabilities reported are resolved within agreed SLAs and timeframes.
  • Manage data centre visits, audits, server installations and removals.
  • Work within an ITIL/ISO 20000 framework to preserve vital production services and produce appropriate documentation.
  • Maintain close working relationships with other relevant teams including Development, DNS & Networking, DevOps and the Project Management Office.
  • Play an active role in assisting the Infrastructure Manager with planning, capacity and resource management.



  • Extensive experience running highly available Linux-based on-prem infrastructure (RHEL6/7/8).
  • Vast knowledge of running and operating services in multiple data centres.
  • Expert knowledge of Linux, Ansible, Dell or HPE storage and compute, GIT.
  • Demonstrable experience of VMware v6.x with larger VMware deployments (more than 50 ESXi hosts) across multiple locations.
  • A thorough understanding of internet, networking and other infrastructure technologies.
  • Ability to work on large, high volume critical infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of Zabbix, ELK, and Kubernetes highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of logging platforms (e.g. rsyslog, syslog ng).
  • Comfortable scripting using an appropriate language (e.g. Bash, Python, shell, etc)
