The Technical Solutions Architect for the Technology Transformation Programme (TTP) has responsible for working as a Design Authority in conjunction with the Enterprise Architects to architect, design and support the delivery of the technology transformation programme.  Encompassing both on-premise DC infrastructure redesign and refresh with a further focus to cloud Infrastructure. 


This role is a great opportunity for the right candidate to gain exposure to a wide range of technologies that underpin the critical national infrastructure for the UK registry services, DNS for 30+ top level domains and secure government solutions.


You will assure solution and systems design across our estate, so all elements of the solution are aligned to IT architecture and standards to deliver the required outcomes for the project and associated change activities. The candidate should be able to develop high & low-level designs, assure solution builds including both functional and non-functional requirements and needs are met.





Using your strong architectural experience, this high profile and varied role will ensure you can showcase your expertise by :

  • Ensuring Nominet IT Operations has a reliable, flexible and scalable infrastructure for the future that enables and supports the business strategy and direction.
  • Lead and champion transformation delivering longer-term changes to core technology problems to drive improved and secure system and service performance.
  • Explore and propose the overall structure and direction of Data Centre Infrastructure architecture and Cloud technologies within IT Operations.
  • Be comfortable and excited about working with and learning the breadth of enterprise technologies and emerging architectures Nominet exploit.  
  • Collaborate with technical and business team leads to determine and meet internal and external customer requirements. Working within an ITIL/ISO 20000 framework to preserve vital production services, to Service Level Agreement targets to ensure uptime and performance of both systems and services.
  • Evaluating technology, solution options and associated costs. Identify and addressing gaps in the current infrastructure and capabilities to deliver required business goals.
  • Researching relevant literature, communities and forums to gain insight to assist in ensuring the architecture is fit for purpose.
  • Understand and proactively plan infrastructure, XaaS and service monitoring against agreed requirements.





  • Strong experience as a technical solution design authority with experience working in Infrastructure, Data Centre, Underlay and Overlay networks, Software Defined Networking with a focus to deployment of cyber security best practice principles with an advanced understanding across a broad spectrum of mission critical infrastructure technologies.
  • Infrastructure related technology innovation and emerging technology awareness with a good external, market knowledge of target environments, platforms, systems, software and applications etc.
  • Pro-active self-learner capable of understanding new technologies quickly with facilitation, influencing and negotiation skills to be able to share and communicate that knowledge.
  • Significant hands-on knowledge of Data Centre Technologies and Networking, Juniper, Dell, F5, NSX-T.  VMWare, Horizon(desirable),  plus breadth of wider virtual and cloud technology knowledge with OS hands on experience.  (certifications desired).
  • Knowledge of cyber security best practice and principles with Hands-on or previous deployment experience of security controls and measures with knowledge of data centre architecture design and deployment (Certification desired).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of:
    • Networking hardware Dell, Juniper
      • (Cisco or HP Skills considered transferable)
    • Load Balancing Technologies – F5, NGINX
    • VMware NSX-T & Horizon
    • Big Data Technologies and Data migration
    • Server and SAN hardware (HP)
    • Infrastructure migrations maintaining application interoperability for services running database and various communication protocols
    • Containerisation of applications and workloads and their deployment to secure environments
    • OS knowledge - Redhat and Windows
