You will lead, inspire, and manage one of the two Web Applications teams in our Internet Engineering & Operations function. This is a highly skilled full-stack software development team which develops new features, modules and applications that keep the .UK infrastructure running, along with our gTLD registry platforms. 

You will have a hands-on lead role in producing robust, cutting-edge web applications utilised by millions of users and at the heart of the Internet.



• Leading the development across numerous business-critical Registry applications that power the .UK and gTLD platforms. 

• Managing a team of software engineers - including recruitment, regular 1:1s, mentoring, performance reviews and objective setting.

• Provisioning high quality software development to both Nominet business and IT team

• Understanding and proactively planning software and infrastructure to meet technical and business needs.

• Managing project activity and balancing this with support and administration tasks

• Monitoring the technology platform closely, ensuring that obsolete libraries are deprecated and new opportunities are adopted where appropriate.

• Actively contributing to the code-base, implementing new features and systems as required.

• Produce detailed implementation plans for business requirements and ensure delivery within the team.

• Maintaining a close working relationship with other teams to ensure consistency in terms of development practices and code quality and with the Registry Service Team to deliver projects and enhancements



Ideally you will have excellent knowledge of both front-end and back-end development practices, as the team is full-stack. This role would suit either an experienced team lead or someone looking to step into a team management role (experience of managing the work of others and mentoring required).

You will also have:

• Expert knowledge of at least one of the following: JavaScript, Java, Angular

• Excellent knowledge of software development paradigms and design patterns.

• Excellent knowledge of GIT as well as SQL and Oracle databases.

• Excellent knowledge of web-based development trends, and a proven record of building highly scalable and performant web applications.

• Good knowledge of Linux-based operating systems.

• Experience of CI (Continuous Integration), using tools such as TeamCity.

• Experience of automated testing.

• Experience in managing a team or registry systems development desirable.
